Five Minutes With Mary...

In church our Relief Society teacher wanted us to think about what we would say if we had five minutes with Mary, the mother of our Savior. So, I was thinking about it; what would I ask her, what would I say to the sweet woman who raised the Son of God. So the more I thought about it, the more I just wished I could thank her for devoting her life to raising the Savior. I can't even begin to imagine the heart ache she felt through out much of her life as she witnessed others mocking, persecuting and ultimately crucifying her son. So I wrote a little poem as I was trying to think of what I would say if I were able to talk with her, to sit with her face to face, to ask her whatever I wanted to ask her. So here are my thought...

Mary
On that dark blessed night with the light of the star,
people came searching from near and from far.

To see the sweet babe in your earthly care,
sleeping sound in the manger, oh the load he'd soon bare.

How did it feel to hold that sweet child,
flesh of our father, so meek and so mild?

Did you know what would would become of your precious son?
The Lord of Heaven and Earth, God's chosen one?

How your heart must have ached with pain and with grief
when he went out in a world stained with sin and unbelief.

Oh Mary, sweet Mary, chosen mother of the Lamb,
you raised the Savior who would raise all Man.

Oh, if I could sit down beside you and tell you face to face
of how much I admire you for your courage and your grace.

I would love to hear the stories that only a Mother could tell
about what it was like to raise the child, Christ the Lord, Emanuel.

I ache with the pain you must have felt, to experience such great loss,
for a mother to witness her loving son hanging on a cross.

You were chosen for his mother because of your virtue, strength, and love
Entrusted with God's child from the Royal Courts above.

From his birth till his death you were his mother so true
Mary, from one mother to another, I give my deepest thanks to you.

School Christmas Program

I videoed a lot of the program, so I forgot to take any pictures of my little Reindeer MaKenzie. She had a great time on stage, after ever song they sang, she would turn to the boy next to her and ask him if her red nose came off, it was just lipstick on her nose, but she kept touching it, it was pretty funny. Skyler had his program the second night and was in a special play called It's Christmas on Candy Cane Lane." It was very cute, he was an Evergreen Tree in it! I had to also post the pictures of my kids in the car ride over. You can tell that Skyler is crying in the picture. If you are wondering why he was so sad, just look at the picture of his sister and you can probably guess, she was being a little pill!!!!!!!!!

Ward Christmas Party

Last Friday night was our ward Christmas party, it was great. They had wonderful, the primary sang Away in a Manger, and Kenzie was asked to be "Mary" in it. She was thrilled to pieces and she sang parts of the song very loud. Here are a few picts. Skyler is not in many of the picts because he is a hater of the camera. Kenzie is total opposite and LOVES being in picts. Oh Kenzie asked Santa for make-up and told him she would only wear it at home. Skyler asked for a DS and then smiled winked at me. This is his first year where "he knows." I miss his enthusiasm and excitement over Santa. Childhood just goes way too fast.

Granny and MaKenzie

This week Jeremy's sister Dru came to Yuma with her kids. We had a great time full of visiting, cousin sleep overs, and the park. On Wed. I turned 30 which was kind of depressing for me, but all in all I don't feel too much different than I did when I was 29. We spent the day at Bridgette's house hanging out and eating of course. Jeremy rode up to Phoenix with his Dad after they got off work, it was so nice to finally have him here, I don't know if it was becasue it was my b-day or what, but I was missing him so bad all day. We ended up staying hte night at Sara and Davin's house and then heading out to my mom's early the next morning. Jeremy took Skyler and my brother Sam, who flew in from Colorado, on a hike out by my mom's somewhere. MaKenzie just enjoyed the quiet of Grandma's house and playing with the school house and McDonalds playset that I used to play with when I was a kid. It is fun watching my kids play with toys that I did when I was little. Nicky and her little family came over right before it was time to eat. Kenzie had fun with her cousins. Poor Skyler doesn't have anyone in my family his age, so he just hung out, but he had the whole week with his other cousins, so he can deal with it for a day. Anyways, Mom outdid herself with her delicious appetizers, huge feast and great pie! She is such an amazing person. I was so glad we could be with her this Thanksgiving. We drove back to Yuma after we ate dinner, we unpacked, got the kids to bed and then I worked out because I blew it big time on Wed and Thursday. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and were surrounded by the people you love!

Twilight Night!

Ok so this post may seem a little jumbled, but I am SUPER tired. Last night was the Twilight Midnight release.Usually I wouldn't ever go to a midnight showing, but my friends Sabra and Shannon put on this great tailgate/pre-show party. It was full of friends, food, and prizes. I sat with my good friend Shelly and we had a great time! Obviously they can't fit an amazing book into two hours of footage, but they did a pretty good job! My favorite part of the night was when one of my awsome friends Stephanie won one of the prizes, it was a life sized cardboard cutout of Edward! It was so hilarious, you just have to know Stephanie, she is the funnest person ever. She is going through some extremely difficult trials that most of us could never even begin to imagine. Seeing her smile and hearing her scream and run up to her cardboard man was priceless. Another highlight of the Twilight night was just seeing old friends I haven't seen in a long time. There is a pict of me and Shelly, my friend Natalie and her sister Jana, my friend Angela and her family, and of course Stephanie and "Edward".Oh I don't think I mentioned that the girls who through this big bash actually rented out our own theater, it was great. Anyways, I have had 2 hours of sleep and I think I am actually going to go take a nap, I have not done that in years, but my bed is literally calling my name. Thanks girls for all your hard work getting this party together!

Random kid picts

Here are a few picts of the kiddos, you may notice that I usually have so many picts of Kenzie and not too many of Skyler, just so you know why, it is because Skyler is not a fan of getting his picture taken while Kenz LOVES having her picture taken!

EMERGENCY!

A couple weeks ago we had a fake "EMERGENCY" camp out. Jeremy came home from work and said there was a pretend emergency and we needed to grab our 72 hour packs and leave right away. So we jumped in the car and headed out to an area in the middle of no where and set up camp. It took us quite a while to get our tent up, it was a brand new one, so we had never put it up before. Jeremy made a fire and then we worked for a long time getting it together. The problem was we couldn't see the directions or the colors on the poles, it was way to dark and it was extremely windy. Jeremy made some ramen for the kids and some noodle thing out of our pack, definitely not a great meal, but if we were really hungry and in a real emergency, it would be wonderful. So the whole experience was good practice, but it was definitely a rough night. Our tent wasn't staked down, so it kept blowing over on top of us. It was also so loud. My family sleeps like rocks, they must get it from their dad because I didn't sleep more than 20 minutes the whole night. We were up at 5 and packing up, when we got the tent broken down, it about blew away with Jeremy attached to it, it was the windiest night and morning I have EVER experienced. Once the sun came up the wind died down, then we had fun hiking around and just enjoying ourselves. We made a quick Mr.G's pit stop on the way home(the best Mexican Fast food ever) and that concluded our spontaneous camping trip. It helped us know what else we need to pack in our 72 hour kits(socks, and a spare implant battery). So hopefully our next emergency camp out will begin before it is pitch black outside and involve a lot LESS wind.

Our great Yuma park!

So this last week we went to the Yuma Wetlands Park, they have an amazing play structure there, my kids had a blast. I was pretty irritated though while we were there because this poor little girl with down syndrome was all alone. BAsically when we got there there was one little kiddo there with his grandparents and then us, then this sweet little girl with D.S comes out of the tree house and she is bare foot and dirty and can't talk. Well she could utter single words. Anyways, sh estayed with me and Kenz the whole time she was so smiley and happy to have someone to play with. I had to stay right there with Kenz the whole time because the little girl was VERY, VERY touchy and Kenz was getting a little nervous. Anyways, I was asking the little girl where her mommy and daddy were, she kept saying "home" finally after about an hour of being there her dad who was at the very end of the parking lot sleeping in his car came to check on her. When he saw her he went back out to his car. I was so mad, for one, anyone could take her or do what ever they wanted to her in a huge park like that, not to mention, she wanted to leave with us and get in our car when it was time to go. I am sure she would want ot go with anyone who actually paid some attention to her. My gosh watch your kids people. It just doesn't seem right that some kids are born to parents who don't take care of them. Ok I will stop venting, I just can't stand it when people don't take care of their kids, especially if they have special needs!

Perfect Attendance Award

So Kenzie had her first awards ceremony at school. She had perfect attendance for the first semester. Can you tell she was excited? It wasn't so much about being at school everyday, more along the lines of getting a free Sonic slush. Skyler missed one day because his was sick, so he didn't get it this semester, maybe next time buddy!

Tagged by Audra

Ok so you here's what you do. Go to your picture folder and put the 6th picture in this post, no matter what picture it is. The second part of the post is to post the oldest Halloween picture you have of your family. Our Halloween pict was taken back in 1999, the year we got married and it is in the gym at the Wickenburg chapel. Oh and I have my pictures posted in the wrong order, so obviously my Halloween one is first and the 6th picture in my folder is second. So, here goes:

I think I will tag Kimmy, Sabra, Brenda, Tia, Natalie, and Tina, only if you want to though, seriously no pressure!

Quote of the day~

Mom- Sit on the bed pumpkin so I can do your hair.
Makenzie- Mom can you call me candy corn instead of pumpkin?
Mom- Alright, sit on the bed candy corn so I can do your hair.
I love my silly munchkins!!!!! Happy Halloween!

Update On My Man

So many of you know that Jeremy has been having some extremely scary health issues the past couple weeks. This is going to be really nasty for some of you to read, so if you are afraid of bathroom talk don't read on. Anyways, he has had severe diareah for over a week, but on Sunday his head pain and stomach cramping were almost unbearable. He was missing work because he was so sick. We had his seizure med's increased, so he thought that could be why he was feeling so awful. Well Monday morning he was still going to the bathroom twice an hour and it was pure blood coming out, we freaked and went to the ER. They gave him an IV and a stomach medicine and re hydrated him. His blood work came back fine, but his stool sample wouldn't be back for 3 days. Anyways, we took him to a GI specialist the next day because he was just in so much pain. They put him on the antibiotic Cipro. He was still having the bleeding, but this morning the bleeding finally stopped, he still has chills, but is doing so much better. Tonight we got a frantic call from the ER Dr. who saw him, she was SOOOOO relieved that he was on Cipro, she said he had a VERY serious case of Salmonella. With his insides being torn up enough to cause him to have bleeding like that for days, he is lucky he didn't die. So thank goodness he is doing better, it has been a scary, stressful, 10 days. So thank you to everyone who has been praying for him. He was joking about it and saying he wants a t-shirt that says I survived salmonella. Of course lots of people get it and are just fine, but he had such a serious case, we were lucky. I love you Jeremy, Salmonella and all!

Happy Halloween!

So, we had our Monday before Halloween FHE, it was a mixture of feelings. The kids had a blast, they carved their pumpkins on their own this year and then we made yummy carmel apples. The reason I say "mixed feelings" is because Jeremy has been SOOOOOOO sick for many days now, he has been to the dr. twice, the hospital once, and he was just not able to enjoy the night with us. I did get him to get in a pict with the kids and their pumpkins, but poor guy was so sick. This year Skyler is a going to be a pirate and MaKenzie is going to be Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. I figured when we are ready to go to the Trunk-or-treat, the kids will not want me to be taking thier pictures, so I just did it a few hours ahead of time. Oh and Jeremy actually went to work today, he did not really feel good enough to, but he just doesn't want to get in any trouble with being gone so much. His antibiotics seem to be taking care of some of the infection, so that is good. We will see how he feels when I pick him up from work in a few hours. Hope you all have a great Halloween!

Nope, I am not preg.

OK so I have been getting lots of questions from friends about whether or not I am preg. Well my friends that would be a negative. Would we like to be...absolutely. Yes we have been trying. I decided to just go on with life because who knows when or if it will happen. I have a pretty busy scheduel starting in Jan. I am going back to college to get my master degree in Special Education with my area being deaf and hard of hearing. I am super excited about that. I can do most of the program online. I also have a job interview on Wednesday with the Southwest Regional Co-Op for the School of the Deaf and Blind here in Yuma. I am hoping I get that, there are a handful of deaf children here in Yuma and I would love to be able to take what I have learned from Desert Voices and be able to help these kiddos out here. We will see how the interview goes and if they would be willing to emergency certify me. I never thought I would be going to grad school, I am nervous, but also very excited. I know it will bless our lives. Ok well this is just a post to let you all know what is going on with me. Keep you fingers crossed. I promise to post if we find out we are expecting. Hopefully it won't be too far off, but I will just leave that in the Lords hands.

Brenda Tagged me...

I am supposed to list 6 weird things about myself I thought the pict up there was kinda a weird one that was fitting for this post, so here goes:

1. I like to watch my kids sleep, sometimes I will just go sit on the floor in their room or snuggle up next to them and just stare at them for a long time. I don't know if it is because it is the only time they are sitting still enough for me actually look at them or what, but it is so peaceful to me.

2. I like to make myself sneeze, totally gross, but if I stick a feather or something around my nose, I sneeze. Not that that is too weird, but sometimes I make myself sneeze like 10 times in a row, I just think it is fun. I know kinda freakish.

3. I like to scare my husband. I never used to do this, but he always hid around corners and stuff and would jump out and scare me, so then I started doing it to him. I have to say turn about is fare play. It is so fun to be hiding in a closet and have him go to get something and just scare the pants off him. Nothing like making a grown man scream like a girl!~Sorry Jeremy, you started it though, you've created a monster! :)

4. When I was trying to stop drinking Diet Pepsi, I bought my last one(at the time) and drank it so slowly and saved the can. After it was gone I filled it up with water and would drink out of it all day. I was making my self think I had a soda because I had the can in my hand, but it was only water, I look back on that and I think that is weird. Unfortunantly my love affair with soda is back. I did really good for about 8 months without it. Then I was at my moms house one weekend about 2 months ago. I saw my dads sodas in the fridge, most of you know he passed away), but when I saw them in there, I got really sad and I just really wanted to drink one, and I did and now I am trying to wean myself back off of them.

5. I hate wearing nylons, I do wear them occasionally, but I feel like I am sufforcating when I wear them. So if you ever see me at church and I am wearing nylons and look a little uncomfortable, it is because I am.

6. Let's see, what can I put for my last one? Um, when my kids are at school, I like to put on my favorite CD's and belt out my favorite songs, usually in the car, I know that is lame to put on my weird things list because lets face it, you know you do it too.
Ok I think I will tag Natalie, Angela, Tabatha, Tia, Tina, Jen, Brigette, Dru, and anyone else out there who can think of a few weird things you do.

My Mom, Aunt, and Uncle came for a Visit

This was a great weekend. Friday night we went and watched the play Beauty and the Beast, it was awesome. They actually had the Broadway costumes and everything. It was a lot of fun. Then Saturday morning the kiddos had primary program practice and a pizza party. Then that afternoon my mom, her sister Eva, and Eva's hubby Jim came for a visit. We had a great time! We went to a delicious restaurant here in Yuma called El Charro. Then we came back got the kids ready for bed and then we sat and listened to my Uncle Jim play his guitar and sing old cowboy songs, he has some major talent. The kids loved playing his guitar and getting pointers from Jim. I am so lucky to have such great family. My uncle Jim and Aunt Eva are two of the nicest people you could meet. They came out from West Virginia and are staying in Queen Creek with my mom for a couple weeks. Eva is such an amazing lady, she has overcome much. She had a stroke last year and was paralyzed on one side of her body, through a lot of physical therapy and I am sure a lot of prayer, she is walking and doing really well. They are both so wonderful and I am so glad that my kids got to see them and spend time with them. Kenzie and Skyler had their primary program today and both did so well, they both memorized their parts and sang their little hearts out. After church we came back to our house and made dinner and visited some more, then Kenzie had to be a "hair stylist" and comb and adorn Eva's hair with barrettes. She even combed Jims, but hid the barrettes when she started combing his hair. I hope my kids always remember this visit, I know I will. Thanks guys for coming all the way down here to see us. It meant a lot.

I Love This Thing!!!!!!!!!

OK, so I finally figured out how to work this new piece for Kenzie's implant. It is actually an ear hook that attaches to her external processor. There is an extra port on this ear hook so I can attach a cable to it and into a portable device like an MP3 player or a Leapster. So I put it on her to see if she could hear, she is always wanting to put my head phones on, but when you are deaf, you just can't hear through them, but this attachment is kind of like headphones, because the music goes directly into her implant so even though none of us can hear what she is hearing and there is nothing stuck in her ears, she is jamming away. It is so cute, she has been shaking her little booty and dancing all afternoon. She keeps saying, "Can I keep this on forever?" I had to tell her that she would be in trouble at school if she was listening to my MP3 player all day. Anyways, I am so happy for her to have this new piece of technology to make her life even more exciting! I still am baffled that some people feel that by giving her the gift of sound, (her cochlear implant)we are ruining her life and changing the way God made her. It is so the contrary, we are allowing her to express herself for the whole world to hear and see. She loves being able to hear and talk. We are teaching her some basic sign language just for fun, but for people to tell us how wrong we are for chosing to let her hear, I just will never understand. Oh and that top picture is of her belting out some serious La La's.

Mom came for a visit

OK so mom came down this last week for several days, we had such a good time. She was a sport and went with me to the school a couple times to work on PTO stuff. We mainly just hung out and enjoyed our time while the kids were in school and we could just sit and talk and walk around Sams Club. We actually went to get a couple things from Sams Club and ended up sitting on the display couch there talking for a couple hours, it was so fun, thankfully there were no perishables in our cart, it was so nice having her here to visit with. She really is my best friend. She is trying so hard to stay busy and is doing so much service to try and help relieve some of her pain and loneliness of being without Dad, but she is really having a hard time. I can't believe he hasn't even been gone 6 months, it feels like a lifetime ago to me. OK well we had a great time having mom here. Kenzie thoroughly enjoyed combing and putting barrettes of all shapes and sizes in my moms hair. Skyler enjoyed playing Snake in the Grass with her and helping her take Kenai for walks. I enjoyed our conversations, reminiscing about Dad, going to El Charro, adding up order forms (PTO),watching conference, eating popcorn together, and just having my mommy around! Love ya mom! Thanks for coming down, we can't wait till you come back in December!!
